Hello everyone! Today I am on the Craftin Desert Divas blog with a fun card I made using the newly released Get Wild stamp set. I decided to combine images from this cute set with the Safari Zebra digital stamp, which was one of the freebies during the August release event, and is now available for purchase on the CDD shop. I love the style of this digi, and as soon as I saw it, I thought it would be fun to create an unconventional safari themed card…In this card it is in fact the zebra who observes the behavior of humans as they roam around the jungle! I personally think that this zebra is perfect for this purpose, and I find the result really fun! So let’s have a look at how I created this card!
To start off I colored all the images with my Spectrum Noir markers, trying to stick to neutral tones, and I cut them out with my Silhouette Portrait.
I then created my front panel: for the frame I used the largest from the Inside Scalloped Rectangle Dies to cut some Bristol Smooth cardstock. I inked up the frame using Distress Ink in Shabby Shutters, and I sponged the edges with some Distress Ink in Peeled Paint to add some depth. I then cut some heavyweight white cardstock to the same size as my frame, and I created a circular window using the second largest die from the Inside Scalloped Circles set. I added some color to the window panel with Distress Oxide in Antique Linen, and I have to say that I really love the effect I got. The soft, chalky look of the Oxides is really unique and worked perfectly in this card!
I then moved on to creating my jungle. I used several dies to cut all the elements I needed from some Bristol Smooth Cardstock, and I colored them with my Distress Inks. For the foremost grass layer I used one of the dies from the Outdoor Landscape 2 set, and I did some ink blending with Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint. For the taller grass layer in the back I used one of the dies in the Outdoor Landscape die set and used Peeled Paint and Forest Moss Distress Inks. For the tree trunks I used again one of the dies from the Outdoor Landscape 2 Dies, and I inked them with Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso Distress Inks. The leaves are cut using one of the dies from the Island Die set, and are inked up with Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint. For the sky I used Broken China and Stormy Sky. All the CDD supplies I used are listed and linked at the end of this post for easy reference.
For my card base I cut some white cardstock to a standard A2 size, and I thought it would be fun to add some black cardstock as well, to tie in my card base with the zebra. The black panel is cut at 4 1/8″ by 5 3/8″ and I adhered it to my card base with some liquid glue.
For my sentiment banner I thought I would also add some black and white elements to guide the viewer’s eye toward the zebra, which I wanted to be the star of this card. I used two dies from the Flag Banner dies to create two banners, a white one and a black one, and I layered them together. The sentiment itself comes from the Get Wild set and I think it works really well for this card. π
At this point I could go ahead and assemble everything: I composed my jungle and glued all the elements behind my window panel with Ranger Multi Medium Matte. I adhered the front panel to the card base using some white glue. For the scalloped frame and the banner I used one layer of 3M foam tape, and because I really wanted the zebra to stand out, I adhered it using two layers of foam tape.
And here is a close up picture of the card, so that you can see all the details and the fun dimension π
And that’s it for today’s card! I really hope you liked it, and I hope I inspired you to have some fun with these great stamps and dies and to create your own jungle scene! You can find the list of supplies with links to the CDD shop at the end of this post, and I will be back soon with another fun project! Have a great day!
