Halloween 2017 Card Making Series – Moonlit Scene feat MFT Witch Way is the Candy and Spectrum Noir markers

Hi everyone! Today I am back with another card I made for the MFT Card Design Superstar – this time for the Coloring Virtuoso challenge. I said it many time – I like card making challenges because they offer an opportunity to push my boundaries and venture outside my comfort zone. And with this card I pushed quite far! But I have to say, I am really happy I did, and quite satisfied with the result! 🙂

Inspired by some of the recent works by Kelly Latevola and Sandy Allnock, I wanted to try to create a night, Halloween scene, in which my characters were lit by the moon. So I pulled out my beloved and long desired MFT Witch Way is the Candy stamp set, I stamped some of the images on some Neenah Solar White cardstock, and I colored them with my Spectrum Noir markers. I made sure to leave space for the yellow highlights cast by the moon, and tried to achieve a deep contrast in all my images.
I then moved on to the background. I traced a coffee mug on some masking paper to create a mask for my moon, and I cut it with my scissors. The edges are not perfect, but I didn’t have a circular MFT die, and in this competition no other dies are allowed, so I made it work. And in a bit I will tell you how I hid the imperfections 🙂
I then took some Bristol Smooth cardstock cut at a standard A2 size, placed the mask for the moon, and ink blended Distress Inks in Dusty Concord, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot to create the sky. I added stars with the silver color in my Gansai Tambi palette, simply loading a small brush with paint and flicking it on my paper. 
For the moon I used Distress Inks in Scattered Straw and Squeezed Lemonade: I masked the sky with the negative of the mask I had created for my moon, and did some more ink blending. 
I then removed the mask and created a halo around the moon with my Prismacolor pencils. This adds to the spooky feel of ths card, and hides the non-smooth edges of my hand cut moon 🙂

For the grass I used one of the dies in the MFT Grassy Borders set to cut some more Bristol Smooth Cardstock. I did some blending with Distress Inks in Crushed Olive, Forest Moss, Mowed Lawn and Black Soot. Because I wanted to frame my scene on a black card base, I trimmed down my sky panel to 4 1/8″ by 5 3/8″.
I then heat embossed my sentiment with Ranger white embossing powder and glued everything to my card base. I added some foam tape behind the bat’s wings for some dimension, and drew back in the cat’s whiskers, that I had cut away when fussy cutting the images.
I also have two videos for this card. 
 The first one shows the coloring for the witch, as well as the card making process. The second one has no voiceover, shows the entire coloring process for all the images, but does not include the card making process. I thought this could be a good solution to keep the card making video reasonably short, but it still gives the possibility to those of you who are interested in the full coloring process to have access to that info too.
