Hello everyone! Today I am back with some inspiration for a cute handmade Christmas gift. I created this adorable ornament using some acrylic baubles and one of the images in the C.C. Designs Reindeer Games digital stamp set. I have really been enjoying C.C. Designs stamps lately, so get ready to see more in the near future!
As a first step I printed the image on some Neenah Solar White 110 lb cardstock. I also printed a second, mirrored version, because this ornament is actually double sided. This way no matter how the recipient hangs it, they still will be able to see the scene. I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut both images, and I colored them with my Spectrum Noir markers. I added a few details with my white gel pen and some glitter with my Spectrum Noir clear overlay pen.
I then moved on and started working on the backgrounds. I cut two circles out of Canson XL watercolor cardstock using a die by Tonic Studios. I tried to find the die that best matches the diameter of the baubles I used (10 cm). For each of the two die cut circles I proceeded as follows. I created the snowfall by heat embossing the background stamp in the Lawn Fawn Snowy Backdrops set. I used Nuvo Shimmering Pearl embossing powder, as it has glitter in it. I then did some ink blending using Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean and Chipped Sapphire. I put my two sky panels aside to dry.
I then created two snowbanks out of white cardstock. I die cut the shapes by combining a stitched hillside die by Craftin Desert Divas with the same circle die from Tonic Studios that I had used for the sky panels. I added some shading with Distress Ink in Salty Ocean and lots of glitter using my Spectrum Noir clear overlay pen. I then assembled each scene by gluing the several elements together.
At this point I could start working on putting the ornament together. I laid the two circular panels with my winter scene face down on my desk, and I ran some nylon thread along the back of one of them. I secured it with some tape, and made sure to leave some thread hanging off the top and bottom of my circles (Fig 1). I went ahead and glued the circles together, back to back.

The baubles I used come in two separate pieces that can be put together. You can see an example over here.
Because my die cut circle was a bit smaller than the bauble itself, in order to adhere it to the ornament I proceeded as follows.
I lay the die cut circle (i.e. the two scenes I had just glued together) on my desk, and added a generous amount of Multi Medium Matte by Ranger to its lower edge. I layed one half of the acrylic bauble on top of it, with the open side down. I made sure that the bottom of the bauble would touch the bottom of the die cut circle, where the glue was (Fig 2). I left everything to dry overnight.

The morning after I secured the die cut circle to the top of the bauble. I pulled the nylon thread so that it was nice and straight, and glued it to the top of the bauble with Multi Medium Matte (Fig 3). Once the glue was dry I assembled the ornament by fitting the two half-spheres together.

As a final step I threaded some ribbon through the eyelet of my ornament. And here’s a close up picture: if you look carefully you will be able to see the nylon thread connecting the acrylic bauble to the die cut scene.
