To create the effect of the water ripples I colored around the areas where I thought these would fall, and then blended the edges with my Copic Blender. Only for the hair on the mermaids I used white acrylic paint. This seemed to be an easier solution, which allowed me to create texture in the hair without having to worry about leaving white areas. To add definition and texture I used my Prismacolor pencils on the face and the hair of both mermaids.
I then traced one of the edges of the MFT Drifts and Hills stencil on some watercolor cardstock to create the otline of my sand bank, and I cut it with my scissors. I blended Distress Inks in Antique Linen, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso and then created the water ripples on the top of the sand bank. I first “drew them in” with a wet brush, so that I would reactivate the ink. I lifted the ink by drying the surface with a paper towel, and then added some white acryilic paint over those areas. To create more texture in the sand I added dots with some brown Spectrum Noir markers.
I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder over some black cardstock and cut a thin banner with my guillotine trimmer. I trimmed my background to 4 and 1/8 by 5 and 3/8 inches and glued it on an A2 sized black cardstock panel.
And that’s my card for today! It was definitely a challenge, but I am quite happy with the result! Contests and are such a great opportunity to push our boundaries and try something new, so thank you, MFT, for running such a fantastic one! I will be entering this in the Coloring Virtuoso category – good luck to everyone who will be playing along!
