Fail-Proof Masked Stamping Technique – MFT 2018 Card Design Superstar – Clean and Simple Genius

Hi everyone! Today I am back with a cute fall-themed card featuring the My Favorite Things Fall Friends stamp set. I created this one for the Clean and Simple Genius category of the Card Design Superstar contest, and I tried to play with colors and design to draw attention towards the little girl, which is the focal point of this card.

I rarely do it, but this time around I actually planned my design in advance. In the video tutorial that you will find at the end of this post I share a few tips on how to create a mask scene in a “safe” and pretty much error-free way 🙂

Once I had stamped my scene ( I used Memento Dew Drops in Rich Cocoa), I used my Prismacolor pencils to color in all the images. I also drew in a whirl of wind with a white Prismacolo pencil. I followed the position of the leaves and tried to covey the feeling that the wind was blowing the leaves around the girl. This way I thought I would create a path for the viewer’s eye that would lead to the girl. I show part of the coloring in the video, and I also created a color chart for you to use as a reference.

After I was done coloring I used a brown pencil and went over the stamped lines to make them stand out a bit more. I did this for the girl, the pumpkin, the bunch of leaves on the ground…

…and on the sentiment too. I did not darken the lines of the leaves in the background because this way they appear as they are further away in the background.

I lightly went in with some brown pencils and added some ground under the leaves, and I mounted everything on a top-folding A2 card base.

And that’s my card for today! I don’t really feel that Clean and Simple is where my strenghts are, but I really enjoyed making this card and I really like the result.
