Hi everyone! Today I am back with two cards and a video, to show you some advanced mirror stamping techniques. I shared a video last week, where I show the basics of this technique, you can find it

In a few words, when using the mirror stamping technique, you stamp your image on a solid block of photopolymer (the back of a large stamp, or, in my case, the My Favorite Things Mirror Image stamp). This way you trasfer the ink on the photopolimer block. At this point you can take your paper of choice and press it over the block, thus picking up the ink. And the resulting image on your paper will be the mirrored version of your original stamp!
The important thing is that you use a juicy ink that doesn’t dry too fast (like Versafine Onyx Black ink or My Favorite Things Black Licorice Hybrid Ink – I used the latter). I also like to use a stamping tool, like the mini MISTI, and go over the mirrored image with a black fine tip pen to darken up the stamped lines. But now let’s focus on today’s cards. In both cases I combined masking and mirror stamping to create some fun effects.
For the first card I used the Heffy Doodle Happy Snappy Crocs, and created a scene in which one of them is happily looking at his reflection in a mirror. The reflected image is the one for which I did my mirror stamping. I also did my masking on this one, using the Heffy Doodle Memo Tape.
I also stamped the straight version of the stamp, and colored them both with my Spectrum Noir Markers. I then cut them right along the stamped lines using my Cutterbee scissors.
For the card base I cut some Bristol Smooth cardstock with the Heffy Doodle Clover Frames Dies. I did some quick masked ink blending using the Heffy Doodle Memo Tape and Distress Inks. I used Abandoned Coral for the wall and Antique Linen and Gathered Twigs for the floor.
In order to create the actual mirror, I used one of the smaller dies in the Heffy Doodle Clover Frames dies. I inked up the frame with Seedless Preserves Distress Inks, and colored the inside portion with my Spectrum Noir markers. I made sure to leave blank areas that would extend the masked portions of my croc. I left these strips to create the effect of light being reflected off of the mirror surface.
I stamped the sentiment Smile! from the Heffy Doodle Happy Snappy Crocs set, and then glued everything to a top folding A2 card base. And I have to say, this card does make me smile! Does it make you smile too? 🙂
For my second card I used the Beary Big Heart stamp set, and again I mixed the mirror stamping and masking techinques. This project is a little bit more convoluted than the first one, but I think the result is super adorable!
The stamp I am using is that of a bear hugging a heart. In order to create my final image, what I needed to do was to mirror the image, but mask off the portion of the heart where the other bear would be standing.
For this reason, I started by creating masks for both my “straight” image, and for the mirrored one. I cut the bears and the hearts apart so that I had more flexibility for my masking.
I then used my mini MISTI to transfer the image onto my Mirror Image stamp, and I placed one of the masks I had created for the bears in the area that I wanted to keep clean. At this point I could press my paper onto the Mirror Image stamp and pick up the ink. This way I created a mirrored version of the original image, minus the area where I was going to stamp the other bear.
In order to do that, I masked the stamped image and then directly stamped the bear where I wanted it to go.
And it is really important that, if you do decide to repeat this process, you start by stamping the mirrored image first. This will make it easier for you to position everything correctly. (Trust me, I tried both ways, and the other one was a mess! 😅 )
Once all the stamping was done I colored my image with Spectrum Noir markers, and fussy cut it with my scissors.
For the card background I used again the Heffy Doodle Clover Frames Dies. I die cut an A2 sized rectangle and created my own patterned by repeatedly stamping the smaller images in the Heffy Doodle Beary Big Heart Stamp set with Distress Oxide ink in Picked Raspberry.
For the panel where the bears are standing I used Peacock Feathers and Tumbled Glass and the ink smooshing technique. It is a really fast and easy way to create interesting, textured backgrounds!
I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on some black cardstock, and I cut a strip around it with the Heffy Doodle Strips of Ease (have I ever said that I absolutely LOVE them?!)
As a final touch I added some Nuvo Drops in White Blizzard.
