Hi everyone! Today I am very excited to be part of a collaboration blog hop between Wow! Embossing Powder and Whimsy Stamps! This is a two day hop with lots of inspiration and giveaways, too!
I will tell you more at the end of this post, but for now let’s focus on today’s cards.
Background
For my cards today I tried a fun technique: I created the same DIY patterned paper on two card panels, the first one stamped with gray ink and the second heat embossed with white embossing powder by Wow!. I then used the Whimsy Stamps Connected Oval die to die cut the panels and swapped the centers around. This way each design is the negative of the other.
Let’s take a look at the process in more detail.
To create the DIY patterned paper, I used the smaller images in the Whimsy Stamps Beaver Birthday stamp set. I also wanted the pattern to be identical on both my stamped and embossed backgrounds, so I used my MISTI to do the stamping.
The steps are as follows:
- I positioned the first panel in my MISTI
- I arranged the three stamps in a random pattern
- I stamped them with Rocky Slope ink by Pinkfresh Studios
- I removed the first panel and placed the second in my MISTI in the same position
- I stamped the images with Wow! Embossing Ink and heat embossed them with Opaque Bright White Embossing Powder.
I re-arranged the stamps to cover different areas of my card fronts and repeated the steps above. I went on until both panels were completely covered
I left the stamped panel as is and I did some ink blending on the heat embossed one. I used LDRS creative inks in the colors Tropical Sea, Parisian Purple, Soft Kisses, Tangeringe Dream.
I then trimmed down the panels to 4×5.25″ and used the Connected Ovals die by Whimsy Stamp to cut out the centers. I also used it to cut some black cardstock.
I glued everything to two A2 sized card bases, swapping the centers and using the black die cut frames.
Images
The images I used today are part of the Whimsy Stamps Beaver Birthday stamp set – SO cute and fun! I stamped them on Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock and I colored them with Illustrator markers.
Here is the list of markers I used
Beaver Body: TN7, TN5, TN3
Beaver Tail: EB7, EB5, EB3
Beaver Ears and Paws: FS5, FS8, FS9
Balloons: DR7, DR5, DR2, BP7, BP5, BP3
Once I was done coloring, I fussy cut them out with my scissors.
sentiment
For the greetings on my cards I used stamps in the Beaver Birthday set and I heat embossed them with white embossing powder over some black cardstock. I rounded the corners of the sentiment banners with a corner chomper and I glued it to my card base.
