Easy Light Up Card – Catherine Pooler

Hi everyone and welcome to the Catherine Pooler Designs x Pear Blossom Press Collab Hop! We’re sharing fun, interactive cards that will really brighten your day. They feature awesome new stamps and dies from Catherine Pooler Designs, and with help from Pear Blossom Press, they all really light up!  Be sure to hop along with us for loads of inspiration!

The card I created today features Pear Blossom Press EZ lights and the Catherine Pooler Bright Days stamp sets.

To begin with, I stamped and heat embossed the images from the Bright Days stamp set with clear embossing powder on some watercolor cardstock. I used Catherine Pooler inks in Skylight, Tiara and Bellini to paint the images and then I die cut them with the coordinating dies.

I have two ink blended panels for the card base: for the larger one, I used Daydream ink and for the smaller one I used Hot Tub. Such gorgeous colors!

I then created the card front. I cut two panels out of watercolor cardstock, both to 3.75″x5″. I set one aside and for the other one, I did some die cutting with the Bright days coordinating dies. I basically wanted to go for an inlaid die-cutting effect with my light bulbs, so I used the same shapes to create the openings.

I also did some light ink blending to create a glow around the light bulbs, and I added some droplets with Catherine Pooler ink in the color Tiara and a sparkly solution. Lastly, I backed this panel with vellum.

At this point, it was time to work on the light-up part of the card. Thanks to the Pear Blossom Press EZ-lights, this is really quick and easy! The lights are pre-assembled and all you need to do is to insert the battery inside the switch element.

Then you will position the LED ends on your card based on your design. I like to secure mine with some washi tape, before adding a layer of foam tape. The foam tape will take care of leveling out the bulk of the switch, and all you need to do at this point is to adhere your panels together! And play with it, of course!

    Thanks for sharing your step-by-step process for creating the light-up feature. It sound intimidating, looks so simple! And your card with the bulbs above their recesses was a great way to “leave room” for the light.

    Stinkin cute!!! Man o man you have to love an ink called tiara, gorgeous! The little light switch is wonderful! Great lighting effect. Sweet sweet card!
