How to Incorporate Die-Cut Sentiments in Scene Cards – Save the Crafty YouTuber Blog Hop

Hi everyone! Today I am extremely thrilled to be back with a card I made for the Save the Crafty YouTuber video hop! This hop was initiated by the marvelous Justine Hovey, and immediately joined by many other big names in the crafty world as well as by some very generous companies. The aim is to try to support those channels who will be affected by the changes in the YouTube Partner program, taking effect on February 20th*. There will be prizes to be won at each stop in the hop, for a total of over 120 (you heard me – one-hundred-and-twenty)!!! Plus, you will get the opportunity to discover new crafty channels – cause there are never too many card making videos to watch, right? 🙂

Excited? I surely am! I will tell you more about the hop at the end of this post, but for now let’s focus on today’s card.
I decided to create a scene card, and to show how to incorporate a die cut sentiment so that it looks like it’s part of the scene.
To start off I stamped some of the images in the MFT Adorable Elephants on a piece of Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and I used Copics and Spectrum Noir markers to color them in.

The landscape elements were created using Distress Inks over some Bristol Smooth cardstock by Strathmore. For the sky I used Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean. For the grassy hill, which I die cut using the Lawn Fawn Grassy Hills Borders, I used Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn. I used the Darling Ribbon and Dotted Frames die by Studio Katia to cut both panels down, so that they would fit on an A2 card base.
For the sentiment I used the My Favorite Things Big Thanks die. I first did some ink blending with Distress Inks in Mustard Seed, Dried Marigold and Carved Pumpkin over some Bristol Smooth cardstock, and then die cut the sentiment. I added some white drop shadows to each letter, in order to add dimension and separate them from the background. I then went ahead and die cut some clouds using the Lawn Fawn Puffy Clouds dies.

At this point I had everything ready to start creating my scene. I first adhered the grassy hill to the sky, and then placed the elephant, so that I’d have a reference point for my sentiment.
In order for it to look as if it’s part of the landscape, I decided to have the sentiment follow the curve of the hill, and to add one of the clouds right behind it. The butterflies look like they are flying around the sentiment, driving the viewer’s eye towards it, and making it look as if it belongs to the scene even more.
A few white highlights with a gel pen and some sparkle with a Spectrum Noir clear overlay pen finish off the front of my card.

For the inside I used a couple more images from the MFT Adorable Elephants set, and a sentiment from the MFT More Essential Sentiments stamp set.
This card is my way to say thanks to the amazing Justine Hovey, who initiated and organized the hop, and to all the other big names and the companies who decided to join the hop to help out smaller channels like mine. This community is really the best!

And now onto the hop! As I mentioned there will be prizes at each stop, and you can comment under each video to enter for a chance to win. The more videos you watch and comment, the more chances you have!

For this video you can win a 25$ gift certificate to the Simon Says Stamp store, and two inks by Catherine Pooler. Shipping for the inks is only available within the US, so make sure to specify in your comments weather you live in the States or you are international. You need to leave a comment under my video on YouTube, not this post, in order to enter. Winners will be selected on February, 26th and they will have time until March, 10th to claim their prizes.
And, finally, you can click here to watch my YouTube video for the hop! If you like it and would like to support my channel, please leave a like and subscribe, there are more tutorials there waiting for you, and even more to come!
