Hi everyone! Today I am back with another post as a guest designer for Gerda Steiner Designs, and I wanted to show you a fun card I created using the super adorable and fun Wheek, wheek, wheek… Guinea Pig stamp set.
Today’s card features a technique that I don’t use that often: masking. I am usually too eager to start coloring so I plan my cards as I go, but I had had this one on the back of my head for quite a while so I decided to give it a try.
So as a first step I took some Neenah Desert Storm cardstock and stamped the guinea pig with Memento Dew Drops in Rich Cocoa. I stamped the central one first, and then masked it with repositionable packaging labels that I cut to shape. I then stamped the guinea pigs right next to him, masked those too, and finally stamped the ones on the edges of the panel.
I then used a banner die to cut some more masking paper. I traced the contours of the banner with a brown Prismacolor Pencil, creating a drop shadow too, and stamped the sentiment in the middle of it.
I masked the banner too and stamped the lettuce leaves and the tomatoes on the background as if they were falling onto the guinea pigs.
After all the stamping I started coloring all the images with Prismacolor pencils. To emphasize the guinea pigs a bit more I went over the stamped lines with a brown prismacolor pencil. I picked a shade darker compared to the ink I used for stamping, so that the outlined images would stand out.
I trimmed my panel to 4×5.25” and glued it flat on a brown card base.
