Faux Watercoloring with Tonic Studios Shimmer Powders | Love Card feat Studio Katia

Watercolor with Tonic Studios Shimmer Powders and Studio Katia Floral

Hi everyone! It’s Laura here, and today I am back with a quick and easy card featuring faux watercoloring with Tonic Studios Shimmer Powders.

This product is really fun and creates lots of interesting (and shimmery) texture, so I thought I would use it today to create a quick watercolor card with some gorgeous floral stamps by Studio Katia.

I started off my card by stamping the florals in the Blooming Bunch stamp set with Versafine Onyx Black ink on some Canson XL watercolor cardstock. I then heat embossed the image with clear embossing powder. This will add a nice shiny finish to the florals and will also create a barrier for the water and the pigment, which is quite useful for today’s technique.

The technique itself is very easy: all I did was to sprinkle some Shimmer Powders in the areas where I wanted to add color, and then I generously spritzed those areas with water, using a Distress Sprayer. This activates the powders and moves the pigments around.

For the flowers I used Blue Blitz and a bit of Atlantis Burst. For the leaves I used Green Parade and Lemon Yellow.
While the embossed lines help contain the water within their raised boundaries, you can still expect the pigments to migrate outside the areas you initially added the powders to. I consider this a plus, though, as it will add interest to the card and will help convey a loose watercolor look.
Once the panel was completely dry I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to add some shading and definition to the image. I then fussy cut it with my scissors.

I also prepared two background panels using the same techinque and Canson XL watercolor cardstock.
For the base one I used the Darling Ribbon and Frames Dies to obtain an A2 sized rectangle and added color with Violet Brocade and Stormy Cloud Shimmer Powders.
For the rounded rectangle I used the Dotted Patterns Set 3 Dies and Shimmer Powders in Pink Sherbet and Solar Flare.

For the sentiment I used the scripty love die in the coordinating dies to the Spring Bouquet stamp set by Studio Katia. I die cut some black cardstock and added some glossy accents for a dimensional detail.

And that’s my card for today! I really hope you like it, and I hope I inspired you to create with the gorgeous Blooming Bunch stamp set by Studio Katia and the Tonic Studios Shimmer Powders!

Thank you all so much for stopping by, and have a great day!
