Combining Die Cut and Heat Embossed Sentiments | Heffy Doodle’s Birthday Blog Hop + Giveaway!

Hi everyone! Today I am very excited to back on the blog to share two cards and a video that I made to celebrate Heffy Doodle’s first birthday! Whohoooo! I really love Heffy Doodle stamps and dies and I am absolutely thrilled to join the celebrations! And there are some treats for you too, so make sure you read this post until the end! πŸ˜‰

For now, though, let’s talk about the cards. I was so excited to play with some of the goodies from the June release (check it out here, it’s amazing) that I decided to create two cards. For the first one I used the Wingman Stamp set, the new UnbeLEAFable stencil, and the Thanks Heffy Cuts. For the second one I used the Yappy Happy Mail stamp set and the Sending Heffy Cuts. On both cards I also used the previously released Clover Frames Dies, a very unique and versatile set.
For the background on my first card I used Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch to create an ombre effect, with the lighter colors in the center and the darker ones towards the edges. The background panel is some Bristol Smooth cardstock by Strathmore that I cut with the largest die in the Clover Frames Dies. I then used Nuvo Mousse in Citrus Green and the UnbeLEAFable stencil to create a shimmery leafy background, and, once the mousse was dry, I darkened the edges of the background with Distress Ink in Black Soot.
I then stamped my images on Neenah Solar White 110 lb cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored them with Spectrum Noir Markers. I show some of the coloring in the video tutorial, but here’s the color chart with all the markers I used for these images in case you want to have it as a reference.
For my sentiment I combined the Thanks Heffy cuts with some of the sayings in the Wingman stamp  set, which I embossed with white embossing powder on black cardstock. I stacked three “thanks” die cuts on top of each other to create some dimension, and I glued them to the background.
I popped up my parrots on some foam square and adhered everything on a top folding A2 card base.
For my second card I started by cutting some white cardstock with two of the dies in the Clover Frames Heffy Dies, in order to create my front window panel. I then used Memento Dew Drops in Toffee Crunch to repeatedly stamp some of the smaller images in the Yappy Happy Mail stamp set and created my own patterned paper.
I then blended some Distress Oxide in Peeled Paint and Broken China on some Bristol Smooth cardstock to create the background for my little scene. I did some very quick ink blending and added some water droplets with my Distress Sprayer.
I used again Memento Dew Drops in Toffee Crunch to stamp one of the Poodles, some of the letters and the mailbox that come in the Yappy Happy Mail stamp set, and colored them with Spectrum Noir markers, using a more muted palette. And here’s the color chart with all the markers I used for these images as well. Do you like this new feature on my blog?
For the sentiment I used some brown cardstock and die cut the word “sending” using the Sending Heffy Cuts. I also heat embossed the “a card full of hugs” saying from the Yappy Happy mail set with white embossing powder from the same brown cardstock.
I adhered all the elements to a white, top-folding A2 card base and, for a finishing touch, I added three colored in postcards on my custom pattern paper to add some colorful accents to the main panel of my card.
And these are my cards for today. If you’d like a closer look at the cardmaking process you can watch the video I created down below, or directly on my YouTube channel.

Laura, I really like your cards. You knocked me out with the Wingman card. Those adorable little birds looks amazing on your background! Thanks for making a video.

These are so lovely! I think my favorite is the puppy mailbox card. The toffee crunch color gives such a nice feel to the images and your coloring. And I love the patterned paper you created with the envelopes to help frame your scene. Thanks for sharing with us and helping celebrate HD's first birthday!

I love both of your cards. The bright, colorful birds and background are out of this world, and the soft background for the darling dog and mailbox is super. TFS

LOVE LOVE LOVE the sending hugs card. Love how it is designed like you are looking out a window. Beautiful shading and I love that you give us the colors you used to at least help us create something close to your perfect coloring.
