Vellum Shaker Card with Die Cuts Only – C.C. Designs Build a Unicorn Dies

Hi there! It’s finally time for a new C.C. Designs release – woot, woot! This one is packed full of cute stamps, it’s so hard to pick a favorite! All the new stamps, dies and stencils are available for purchase on the C.C. Designs store – I have a feeling these will sell out really fast!

For today’s card I decided to use the new Unicorn Flower Die set. This is one of the new Build-a-Unicorn sets, they are all so adorable! Each set comes with dies that cut the individual elements, plus a base die that makes putting your unicorn together really easily!

There are so many ways you can build your unicorns – from colored cardstock, patterned paper, you can die cut them out of white paper and color them with your favorite coloring medium or, as I did today, you can shade them with Distress Inks. Each look will be different from the others, which makes these dies really versatile!

The paper I used is Bristol Smooth Cardstock by Strathmore: the smooth coating on this paper makes blending Distress Inks really easy. For the face and body of the unicorn I layered Shaded Lilac and Tumbled Glass, for the hair Picked Raspberry, for the eyes and the Black Soot and for the horn I used Shaded Lilac.

For the background I embossed the Birthday Background Rubber stamp with clear glitter embossing powder by Nuvo. I then added color with Distress Inks in Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio and the ink smooshing technique. The cardstock I used for this technique is Tim Holtz Watercolor Cardstock by Ranger.

For the shaker element I used the In & Out Circles and for a change I used vellum instead of acetate. I added a mix of pink and iridescent sequins and glued it to the front of the card. To add color to the circle frame I swiped my Distress Ink cube in Dried Marigold over the die cut, prior to assembling the shaker.

I heat embossed the sentiment from the Party Unicorns stamp set with black embossing powder over a strip of vellum, that I die cut with the Heffy Doodle Strips of Ease dies.
To add some extra details I glued down some Studio Katia Iridescent Crystals and two small banners that I created with the Quad Collage Dies and Distress Inks in Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar.

And that’s it for today! I really hope you liked today’s inspiration with the new C.C. Designs release. And, just as a reminder, the new products can now be purchased on the C.C. Designs store ! Happy shopping!
