Sunset Scene with Alcohol Markers | My Favorite Things Magical Dragons | Card Design Superstar – Coloring Virtuoso

Coming back to the card, I was inspired by the My Favorite Things Card Design Superstar contest. I really love this challenge: I have joined it in the past two years and it has always been a great push for me to try new techniques and to improve my coloring! I will add a link to the cards I made for the past editions of the Coloring Virtuoso challenge at the end of this post, in case you are interested!

I actually started by first coloring the scene in the background, and then I moved on to the images. I tried to render a little bit of water ripples on the sea, where I also added some reflections from the sun. The images in the foreground are back-lit by the sun, and that’s why I added a bit of a rim light on the edges of their bodies. The rest of the bodies are in shadow, as they face away from the sun (a.k.a. our light source).
I also used my ColourBlend Pencils to add more depth to the shadows and more texture to the wings and the ears of the dragons.

I used the same gel pen also to add some details to the water, to make it look as if it was sparkling.

I matted the scene with some black cardstock and I added a sentiment from the Up in the Air stamp set. I heat embossed it with white embossing powder and trimmed the cardstock into a thin sentiment strip.
