My First Mixed Media Art Journal | Art Journal Page with Distress Oxide Sprays

Hi everyone! Today I am back to show you the very first page in my art new journal! I went for a floral themed page with an uplifting quote – I think we all need a little bit of positivity these days! Make sure to also check out the video at the end of this post for a step by step tutorial on how to create this art journal page!

I started by creating the background for my page. I chose two designs from the ModaScrap Spring Flower 12×12” collection, I teared them in pieces and I glued them to my pages. I chose a blue and a green paper to create the sky and the grass, respectively.

I then used some white gesso to push the patterned paper a bit more towards the background: I wanted a subtle effect I could keep building on.

I sprayed the sky with Distress Oxide Sprays in the colors Tumbled Glass and Peacock Feathers. For the grass I applied Distress Crayon in Twisted Citron with a baby wipe and then sprayed some Lucky Clover Distress Oxide on top.

To frame the scene a bit more I also blended Distress Oxides in Mermaid Lagoon and Lucky Clover on the edges of my page. At this point, if you wanted to make your inks permanent, you could coat them with Distress Micro Glaze, but I skipped this step.

I added extra texture to the background using the Triangles stencil and the Fluffy Brilliant White. I also stamped the zig-zag stamps in te Per Te stamp set to the sky, using Distress Oxide in Peacock Feathers.

I then moved on and started working on the images that will be the focal point on my art journal. I used the Daisy Clear Stamps and Dies to create my flowers. This way I have a mix of stamped and die cut daisies to decorate my art journal.

For the quote on my page I used a sentence by Lady Bird Johnson: Where Flowers Bloom so Does Hope. I stamped part of it on a strip of patterned paper from the Spring Flowers collection, using the Calendar stamp set. I completed the quote by die cutting the rest of the words with the Funny Alphabet dies.

I glued everything to my background and I finished it off with some droplets that I created by diluting some Brilliant White Fluffy with water.

And that’s my very first art journal page for you guys! I had a lot of fun making it and I hope it inspired you to create something that makes you happy! Make sure to watch the video below and to subscribe for more inspiration!
