Stretch Your Cardmaking Supplies | Get Crackin’ on Christmas

Hi everyone! Today I am back to share with you a card that I created for April’s Get Crackin’ On Christmas! This is a monthly contest, put together by Jenn Shurkus. The aim is to give some love to our Christmas stamps and to start building a stash of holiday themed cards throughout the year! You can join too and share your holiday cards – Jenn has a giveaway every month, too!

This month, Get Cracking on Christmas is also part of the Hero Arts Stay Crafty with Hero challenge – you can find out more here!
For this reason – and as an “excuse” to stretch my supplies – the card I created today features the Big Thanks stamp set, that was created as a collaboration between Hero Arts and Lawn Fawn.

Edit: this stamp set is now ON SALE on Scrapbook.com for 9.99$! That’s a huge discount! You can get yours here!

And now, let’s have a look at how I created this card!

background

For my card today, I decided to create a scene and to frame it in a square window. I created the front panel by die cutting some Bristol Smooth cardstock with the Heffy Doodle Imperial Stitched Rectangle dies. I then cut an opening using a square die by Tonic Studios.

The background was created on some more Bristol Smooth cardstock using Distress Inks. For the sky I used Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral, Festive Berries, Aged Mahogany and Black Soot.
For the dunes I used the Heffy Doodles Slopey Joes dies and Distress Inks in Antique Linen, Tea Dye and Walnut Stain.

I created some droplets on the sky and the dunes, using the same Distress Inks I used on each element. For the card front I created some more droplets with Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio Distress Inks.

I then moved on and started working on my images, for which I used different stamp sets by Lawn Fawn. I chose the Big Thanks stamp set, in collaboration with Hero Arts, the Cheery Christmas stamp set and the Yeti or Not stamp set.
The Big Thanks stamp set is not technically a Christmas set, but with a couple of tweaks and a few extra images, it can easily be used on a holiday card!

I stamped them on Neenah Solar White 110lb cardstock with Spectrum Noir Finesse Alcohol Proof Black ink and I colored them with Illustrator Markers. Here is a list of the markers I used:

  • Rhinos: BG2, BG4, BG6, BG7, FS4
  • Teal: GT3, GT2, GT1
  • Red: DR7, CR11, CR8, CR5
  • Orange: OR1, BO1, CT4

To stamp the Christmas tree, I used Distress Oxide in the color Peeled Paint.

Sentiment

For the greeting on my card I used the Lawn Fawn Winter Wavy Sayings. I stamped the greeting using Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide and for the banner I used one of the dies in the Lawn Fawn Flippin’ Awesome stamp set.

To create a colorful drop shadow effect I cut a second banner and ink blended some Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide on top. I adhered everything to a top-folding A2 card base and that finished off my card.

And that’s it for today! Make sure to check out Jenn’s blog as well as the Hero Arts blog! You will find lots of inspiration and all the details about entering Get Cracking On Christmas and the Stay Crafty with Hero challenge!
